Mommy Brain

Do you have it? The Mommy Brain Syndrome. This is when you have over-functioned and multi-tasked you way into complete brain meltdown. Symptoms include the following:

Symptom #1 Being unable to complete one single task at a time. For example, you go to put in a load of laundry. While on route, you stop to help 3-year-old in the bathroom, take out bathroom garbage, wash hands in kitchen, while there get snack for 4-year-old, pick up the baby at your feet, go to nursery to change baby, on the way trip over laundry basket and wonder what it’s doing in the hallway.

Symptom #2 Being unable to hold a continuous thought. Example, you are able to go to playgroup and have simultaneous conversations with five other moms while keeping an eye on your three children and automatically responding to their shouts of “look at me!” but you are unable to have a coherent conversation with your husband about what to do this weekend without asking “what was I saying?”

Symptom #3 Being unable to remember simple facts. Example, you continuously call your children by each other’s names, until you finally just call them all “sweetie.” Unable to keep birthdates straight when talking to pediatrician’s office on phone.

If you have these symptoms, know you are not alone. Unfortunately, all these examples come from my own experiences (okay, like yesterday.) In fact, I’m lucky I’ve been able to write this entry since my brain usually skips around so much I forget what I’m writing about mid-way through! As Chicken Little says, “Wha’ were we talkin’ about?”
